Cloud Functions is a serverless execution environment on Google Cloud for building and connecting cloud services with code responding to events or HTTP requests. On Associate Data Practitioner it comes up as an event destination for lightweight processing tasks that must be securely authorized and reliably configured within data pipeline orchestration workflows.

What you can expect on the exam

Lightweight processing in data pipelines. Expect to deploy Cloud Functions to execute lightweight processing tasks triggered by events within automated data pipelines.
Service account authorization for trigger invocation. You may need to configure service account identities so that incoming event triggers can securely invoke Cloud Functions across trust boundaries.
Dead-letter queues for delivery reliability. Be ready to implement reliability mechanisms such as dead-letter queues to capture, retain, and analyze failed event deliveries targeting Cloud Functions.
Asynchronous event processing with Pub/Sub. Know how to integrate Cloud Functions with Pub/Sub to process events and launch workflows asynchronously from topic subscriptions.
