A decision tree that guides the choice of an Azure Functions data operation trigger based on latency, simplicity, and volume buffering requirements, leading to Polling, Event Grid, or Queue triggers.
Analyze Data Operation Triggers
Functions can also use a Queue trigger where a blob name or record identifier is added to a storage queue, decoupling the producer and consumer. To choose the best trigger for data-centric workflows, use polling triggers when simplicity matters and occasional delays are acceptable, use Event Grid or event triggers for real-time processing and low latency, and use Queue triggers to buffer events and handle bursts in data volume.
