What Azure Managed Disks Are

Azure Managed Disks are block-level storage volumes that are fully abstracted and managed by Microsoft Azure. Instead of requiring administrators to manually create and configure storage accounts to host Virtual Hard Disk (.vhd) files, Azure automatically handles disk creation, scalability, allocation, and underlying hardware maintenance behind the scenes.
